Mt D'Archiac and the Havelock Valley
It looks a little as though I was in a light aircraft painting this one but the road up the Ashburton Gorge comes past Lake Clearwater and just before dropping down into the Potts River this is the view.
Luckily it was a still clear day just before the equinoctial winds start as I painted this on large Antiquarian sized paper that is impossible to handle in the wind.
This is the road to Erewhon Station. The Clyde Valley comes in from the right, joining the Havelock to make the Rangitata. The Potts river is in the foreground.
MT Sunday, in the centre was the site of Edoras Village in the Lord of the Rings films.
